Fall Classes for Elementary-School Kids

Below is our class schedule for elementary-school kids for the Fall Session 2, with links to each class’s registration page. You can also see a calendar view of all classes here, with class information and links to registration pages.

All Art 2-D

Students will have a blast learning the basics of art by painting, drawing, learning printmaking techniques and collaging. Our small classes offer students a nurturing environment and allow teachers to give individual attention to your child.

Ceramics

Ceramic Mondays, Nov. 13 – Dec. 18 (6 weeks), $200; early-bird price: $180 (expires Nov. 1), maximum 6 students.

Teacher: Taylor Elementary School art teacher Ashley Hendrix

Students will have fun creating in a small and nurturing environment. Students will use hand-building techniques of pinch, coil and slab to make a variety of projects. Their creations will be glazed and fired. Clay and firing included in tuition.

Two sessions (same day):

Ceramic Fridays, Nov. 17 – Dec. 15 (4 weeks), 5 to 6 pm, 9-12 years, no class 11/24. $140; early-bird price: $120 (expires Nov. 3), maximum 8 students. Register here.

Teacher: Anne Browne

Students will create projects using ceramic building methods of pinch, coil and slab construction. AH7 does not teach throwing on the pottery wheel. However, students do a range of projects. Over the past year, kids have made clocks, Japanese tea lanterns, small model of student’s home, clay postcards, clay pendants, vases, bowls, animals, relief sculpture, clay portraits and clay figures.


Digital Photography

Students will explore the basics of photography on a phone or tablet. We will learn about composing a shot and shooting from different perspectives, point of interest, rule of thirds, leading lines, and telling a story about a person, place or object. We will also explore basic editing and digital darkroom techniques using the Snapseed app. Students should come with a phone or tablet.

Fiber Arts

Sewing and weaving are the themes of this Fiber Arts class. Elizabeth Ashley will teach the students a variety of embroidery stitches to incorporate in an original composition, as well as, to make functional objects, such as pillows and small pouches. Fabric, yarns, threads, beads and your imagination are all you need to make this a wonderful learning experience.

Painting and Drawing

Using the work of famous artists as inspiration, students will create paintings and sculptures in a variety of mediums. Through the series of projects, basic elements of art – line, shading, color, perspective and composition will be discussed. Materials included in tuition. Projects vary each session, so you can sign up for multiple sessions without repeating lessons.

Parent and Child Ceramics

Come with your child and learn the hand-building techniques of pinch, coil and slab to make a variety of projects. You will work on some projects together and separately. Creations will be glazed and fired (included in tuition).

2-D Arts for Parent and Child

Come enjoy an evening with your child—painting, drawing, learning printmaking techniques and collaging. Ms. Hendrix has lots of fun projects that will inspire you and will teach you a few fundamentals of art making.

3-D Arts for Parent and Child

Come with your child for a fun-filled, creative evening at Art House 7. Projects will be a variety of 3-D media – clay, paper mache and more! You will work on some projects together and separately. Maybe some projects can be gifts for the grandparents!

Parent and Child Art with Elizabeth Ashley and Lauren Lachewitz

Taught by mother/daughter teaching team Elizabeth Ashley (former Taylor Elementary art teacher) and Lauren Ashley Lachewitz (current Taylor Elementary first-grade teacher). This will be a fun time to listen to a story and get inspired to work with a variety of materials while learning about the basic elements of art—line, shape, color and texture. Materials fee included in tuition. Class is limited to 4 parent/child pairs.

Saturdays, Oct. 7 – Nov. 4 (4 weeks), 4 to 8 years, no class on Oct. 28.

  • 8:30 – 9:15 a.m., $140. Class is full, so we are not taking new registrations.
